FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions &
Policies |
1.
“Who can join?… How much is membership
fee?… Can I sign up my sister and her kids?”
Club membership is open to all persons 21 years and older.
Majority of club trips are restricted to paid-up club members only.
Typically one-day bus trips will allow non-members and children (check
with the trip leader).
Membership fee is $60USD the first year and $45USD to renew
annually. You can join at any time in person, at
club meetings (or by
mail:
MEMBERSHIP FORM).
Note:
Your annual membership expires on August 31st.
New Members & Membership renewals
open June 1st each
year, and your renewal opportunity runs up till
August 31st of each year (you have
three months to renew your membership).
After August 31st you are joining as a new member [Hint:
Renew before August 31st and
save $15].
2.
“How large is the club membership?”
We are the largest ski club in New York State with ~700 members
annually. We offer more than just skiing, as we have year round
activities.
3.
“Why should I (we) join?… What does
everyone think about this club?... I’m considering joining, but I
would like to know the general consensus?”
Unsolicited Responses From Club Members:
“Membership is $60 the first year. The best $60 you will ever
spend. Come to a meeting & check it out for free!"
“If you want to have fun and make new friends than this club is
great! The key is to be active (go on the trips) and you will make new
friends and ski more than you every dreamed of (this happened to
me)... The active members ski more than 25 days and take part in the
summer activities as well!”
“I would definitely recommend joining this club! I joined about 4
years ago because my usual skiing friends started doing the
marriage/kids thing and it became more difficult to get trips
together. The Skidaddlers saved my winters! To me the best part about
the club is that it has a very diverse membership - younger/older,
white/blue/pink collar, singles/couples, wild/mellower people,
day/weekend trips and longer trips to Europe (I haven't even gotten
into the summer activities...). So you're bound to find someone to
hang out with if you desire, or if you just want to take advantage of
the cheap deals with your sweetie, you can do that too.”
“The best thing I ever did to improve my skiing and expand my skiing
horizons was to join this club. It also increased the value of my Anheiser Busch stock as well as my Tylenol stock.”
4
“Are the club trips a good value?… What are typical prices?… What’s
included in the trips?”
“You can save some big bucks on trips and always have somebody to ski
or ride with. How about a week in Aspen including airfare,
walk-to-slopes lodging, lift ticket, breakfasts, club parties, taxes,
transfers, gratuities, etc. for $895. A lot of the weekend trips
include transportation. Stowe Bus Trip is $270 for two days skiing,
two nights lodging, two breakfasts and one dinner at a great
restaurant. The bus ride is a big party!”

5.
“How large of a group will be on the trip?”
Trips size will depend upon many factors, but the average is ~35
people per trip. Smallest trip I can recall went with 3 people
(Mountain Biking) and largest can go as high as 100 (Lake Tahoe or
Aspen). Transport (Air or Bus) is often limiting factor to trip size.
6.
“What level skiers – boarders will be on the trip?… Will I have anyone
at my level (terminal intermediate) to ski with? ”

Most trip will have skiers (and boarders) of all abilities.
Hooking up with similar level skiers is fairly easy on the bus trips.
On bus trips before arriving at the mountain the trip leader will
usually get on the bus intercom to get the “green-blue”, “blue”,
“blue-black” and “black” skiers together. For non-bus trips, ask the
trip leader for guidance in grouping up. Skiing with fellow club
member is important part the club experience and has been incorporated
into the club’s motto: “RECREATION WITH SAFETY AND COMPANIONSHIP”
7.
“Where are club meetings held?… Were are ski trip meetings held?…Where
can I join the club?… Can I sign up for trips at the meeting?”
Our club meetings
(held three Wednesday evenings every month at 8:00PM) are
free
and are open to all (21 years and older). There is no obligation to
join so why not stop down and check us out. The
Knights of Columbus Hall
in Deer Park, NY is where all
meetings are held. Specific trip
meetings are also held, usually a week or two before the trip,
(typically 7:30PM; check with the trip leader for details) at the same
location.
You can sign up for trips at the club
meeting or contact the trip leader to arrange payment by mail. All
checks should be made payable to "Suffolk Skidaddlers" and include the
trip name - date of trip - on the check. If making payment by mail, please include
a note
indicating the club member for whom the check payment is being made
and please send trip checks to trip leaders ONLY (unless
instructed by the skimeister otherwise)!

8. "What if I sign-up for a trip, and
later cannot go? ... when are trip payments due?"
Each trip is unique, so read and follow the trip payment schedule and
cancellation fees, as shown on the trip flyer, or contact the trip
leader if you have questions. If you cancel early, the minimum
mandatory cancellation fee is $15.

9. "What if my check is returned by
the bank (Bad Check)?"
A mandatory bad check fee of $25 applies
to all returned checks, no exceptions!
10. "Can I get bumped from a trip?"
Each trip has payment schedule. If you
fail to make payments, you will get bumped off the trip due to
non-payment. Do your part by making timely payments directly to the
trip leader. DO NOT MAIL CHECKS TO THE CLUB PO BOX. any
questions, contact the TL - trip leader.
11. "On drive-up trips, how can I
arrange to share a ride? ... how do I car pool with other club
members?"
It is your responsibility to arrange car
pools for trips. The trip leader may aid you, but you are responsible
to contact and arrange transportation. Suggest you review the trip
list and use your club roster to arrange a shared ride. You can also
post a request for a ride - share a ride on the
